What if I told you that even during a long flight, a power outage, or a remote camping trip, you could still use your CPAP machine? Whether you love to travel, enjoy off-grid adventures, or live in an area with frequent blackouts, being without power doesn’t have to mean sacrificing your sleep. Introducing the CPAP battery, a portable power source that keeps your CPAP machine running no matter where you are!

What Are CPAP Batteries?

Much like a portable phone charger, CPAP batteries use lithium-ion technology to store energy and power your CPAP machine when an outlet isn’t available. However, unlike regular power banks, CPAP batteries are specifically designed for medical devices, delivering 12V to 24V output for stable and uninterrupted therapy.

One of the best features of modern CPAP batteries is their Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) function. If the electricity goes out, the battery automatically kicks in, so you don’t have to worry about disruptions to your sleep.

CPAP batteries come in different sizes and capacities, with most weighing less than 1 kg, making them portable and easy to carry. Some are designed for overnight use, while others can last multiple nights on a single charge. However, not all CPAP batteries are compatible with every machine, so it’s important to check before purchasing.

Why Should I Use a CPAP Battery?

Skipping even one night of CPAP therapy might leave you feeling drained and unfocused. Whether you’re camping under the stars, travelling, or facing a power outage, a CPAP battery keeps your machine running so you can sleep soundly no matter where you are.

Camping & Outdoor Use

A CPAP battery lets you bring your machine off-grid if you love hiking or camping. Many models last multiple nights on a single charge, and some offer optional solar panels, allowing you to recharge using sunlight while off the grid. With most having built-in USB-A and USB-C ports, you can also power up your phone and other electronics, making it an essential tool for outdoor adventures.

Power Outages

Blackouts can happen unexpectedly, but a CPAP battery ensures your therapy continues without interruption. Some batteries can be plugged into a wall outlet and will automatically switch to battery mode when an outage occurs. This feature provides peace of mind, ensuring you get the therapy you need every night.

Increased Mobility

For patients who need their CPAP machine while using a wheelchair, a battery-powered CPAP offers greater flexibility. Some batteries come with a carrying case or backpack attachment, allowing users to easily transport their machine without relying on a stationary power source.

Travel Companion

Traveling with a CPAP machine is much simpler with a reliable battery, where you can power your existing device with a battery. Most CPAP batteries are approved to use by major airlines (including those in Australia). Allowing you to carry them in your luggage and even use them during flights. This ensures you get uninterrupted, restful sleep no matter where your journey takes you.

Introducing our Latest CPAP Batteries

With so many CPAP batteries available, each with different features and compatibility, finding the right one can feel overwhelming. To help you decide, we’ve highlighted the five newest CPAP batteries now in stock, along with their key differences to match your needs. Plus, we’ve included a comparison table to make the selection process even easier.

Zopec Explore Mini

For CPAP users who travel frequently, finding a lightweight, airline-friendly battery can be a challenge. The Zopec Explore Mini delivers exactly what travelers need. It’s the smallest and most portable CPAP battery available, weighing just 0.45 kg and built to keep up with life on the move. Designed for ultimate convenience, it features automatic multi-voltage compatibility, allowing it to power ResMed AirMini, AirSense 10, and AirSense 11 CPAP machines without the need for bulky converters. Whether you are flying internationally, heading off-grid, or preparing for power outages, the FAA and TSA-approved Zopec Explore Mini ensures your therapy remains uninterrupted.

What makes the Zopec Explore Mini stand out is its versatile charging capabilities. It features a multi-voltage DC output that eliminates the need for converters and fully recharges in under two hours, making it perfect for travellers who value speed and convenience. If you’re a light sleeper, the Zopec Explore Mini is an excellent choice as it has no cooling fans or moving parts, ensuring your therapy remains completely silent. If you have trips, you can connect multiple batteries to extend the power supply, doubling the runtime. Although the Zopec Explore Mini is one of the most compact CPAP batteries on the market, it offers one of the best runtimes at 16 to 24 hours. It also utilises high-quality lithium-ion cells from Panasonic, the same premium technology trusted in Tesla vehicles.

However, while the Zopec Explore includes cables for a few ResMed machines, users of other CPAP brands must purchase additional cable kits separately. Nevertheless, the Zopec Explore Mini is an excellent choice for travellers seeking a lightweight and airline-compliant CPAP battery solution.

Zopec Explore 5500

CPAP users who live in areas with frequent power outages should consider the Zopec Explore 5500 Backup Battery. Weighing just 1.36 kg, this powerful battery is built to keep your CPAP running smoothly when the power goes out. With a high runtime of 16-24 hours, it ensures uninterrupted therapy throughout the night. Plus, its FAA/TSA compliance makes it a great option for travellers.

One of the standout features of the Zopec Explore 5500 is its true universal compatibility. It works with all CPAP brands and models from F&P Sleepstyle to 20A Lowenstein without the need for special adaptors or voltage adjustments. That kind of plug-and-play flexibility is virtually unheard of in the CPAP battery market. The battery also includes an advanced Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) with a Zero-Time Automatic Switch. The moment a power cut occurs, it instantly switches to battery power, keeping your CPAP running so your sleep remains uninterrupted. Simply plug in your device and sleep with confidence. Unlike most CPAP batteries on the market, the Zopec Explore 5500 is designed to support humidifier use, offering a minimum runtime of 8 hours with humidification enabled. For longer use, you can connect multiple batteries or recharge using the optional Zopec PHOTONS Solar Chargers.

Beyond CPAP use, the Explore 5500 is highly versatile. It can power essential household devices like TVs, lights, and even lift chairs, making it a valuable tool during emergencies. Moreover, the battery runs silently without the need for cooling fans, providing a noise free sleeping experience every night.

That said, there are a few things to keep in mind. The battery does not support heated tubing, so users who rely on this feature may need to explore other options. While it provides sufficient power for a CPAP with a humidifier, higher pressure settings or extended use may reduce run time. Despite these drawbacks, the Explore 5500 remains a solid choice for those needing a dependable CPAP backup battery with added versatility.

Medistrom Flex

The Medistrom Pilot Flex CPAP Battery is built for convenience, portability, and uninterrupted sleep therapy. Designed to automatically adjust between 12V and 24V, it is compatible with many leading brands like ResMed, Philips Respironics, and more. Whether you’re traveling, camping, or preparing for a power outage, this lightweight and FAA-approved battery keeps your CPAP running smoothly. With a fast recharge time of just 2-3 hours and an impressive runtime of up to 14 hours (depending on settings), the Pilot Flex ensures you’re never left without power.

Beyond powering your CPAP, the Pilot Flex is designed for everyday convenience. It features USB-A and USB-C ports, allowing you to also charge your electronic devices on the go. For off-grid use, optional solar and car chargers make it even more versatile (sold separately). The built-in backup power function automatically kicks in when the electricity goes out, ensuring your therapy is never interrupted.

However, one drawback of the Medistrom Pilot Flex, similar to most batteries of similar size, is that while it seamlessly connects to the ResMed AirMini, other CPAP models require a separately sold cable kit for compatibility. Despite this, the Pilot Flex remains a versatile and dependable option, whether you need a reliable backup at home or a portable power solution for your next adventure.

ResMed Power Station

Another addition to the CPAP battery market is the ResMed Power Station II V2 (RPSII-V2), an external battery built exclusively for ResMed CPAP machines. This battery provides a reliable power source for the AirSense™ and AirCurve™ series. Similar to other CPAP batteries, it allows users to quickly restore power and continue therapy without extended interruptions. Whether used as a primary power source or backup, it can be a solid choice for CPAP users who need portable power.

The RPSII-V2 can connect directly to compatible ResMed devices without the need for a separate converter. Similar to Medistrom, it can be used as a backup power supply, automatically switching on during an outage. Additionally, users have the option to connect two batteries, doubling their power capacity for extended use. The included travel bag offers convenient storage for the battery and accessories, making it ideal for CPAP users who need power on the go.

However, the RPSII-V2 is not compatible with older ResMed CPAP models, such as the S9 and S8 series, or any non-ResMed machines, limiting the type of CPAP machines that can be used with the device. Additionally, AirSense 10 users need to purchase the DC cable separately, which may be an added inconvenience. With a runtime of just 11 to 14 hours (depending on your CPAP settings), it falls short compared to other similarly sized batteries on the market.

Despite this, for those with newer ResMed CPAP devices, it’s a dependable and travel-friendly power solution.

Transcend Micro PowerAway

For CPAP users who need a small and lightweight battery, the Transcend Micro PowerAway P8 Battery is a great choice. Weighing only 0.47 kg, it is one of the smallest CPAP batteries in the market. Designed specifically for the Transcend Micro CPAP machine, it provides over 17.5 hours of run time on a single charge, making it ideal for travel, camping, and power outages.

One of its standout features is its fast charging capability, reaching full capacity in under four hours. For added versatility, users can charge it even when off-grid by using the Transcend Solar Charger, which is sold separately. With over 1,000 charge cycles, this battery offers long-term reliability, making it a solid investment for frequent travelers and home users alike.

In addition to portability, the PowerAway Battery functions as a backup power source, automatically activating during an outage to ensure uninterrupted sleep therapy. Its compact design and quiet operation make it a convenient solution for maintaining CPAP therapy in any setting.

However, despite its advantages, the PowerAway Battery has some limitations. It is only compatible with the Transcend Micro CPAP machine, so if you have any other machines, it wouldn’t be the right fit for you. Additionally, it does not come with a separate power supply, meaning users must either use the charger that came with their Transcend Micro CPAP machine or purchase one separately to charge the battery. While it excels in portability and convenience, these factors may be worth considering before making a purchase.

Things to Know Before You Buy a CPAP Battery

What Size Battery Do I Need for My CPAP?

Choosing the right CPAP battery depends on your machine’s brand, model, pressure settings, and extra features like a humidifier or heated tubing. Using these features drains the battery faster, as does running your CPAP at higher pressure levels. Most manufacturers recommend you switch off these optional comfort settings during battery use. To avoid interruptions, check your CPAP’s power requirements and compare them with the battery’s watt-hour (Wh) rating.

The easiest way to choose the right battery for you is to get a battery specifically designed for your machine, and if you rely on advanced features, opt for a battery with a higher watt-hour (Wh) rating.

How Do I Keep My CPAP Battery Charged?

Keeping your CPAP battery charged is easier than you might think. At home, you can simply use the charger that comes with your CPAP machine and plug it into a standard wall outlet. On the go, you have flexible options. Many batteries can be charged with a solar panel or a car charger (sold separately and differ between brands), which makes them ideal for road trips or camping. Car chargers plug into your vehicle’s cigarette lighter port. Just make sure your charger is compatible with your battery and you’re all set.

Will Insurance Cover My CPAP Battery?

Unfortunately, most insurance providers do not cover CPAP batteries, as they are not considered a medical necessity. However, it’s always a good idea to double-check with your insurance company, as coverage policies can vary.

Even if insurance doesn’t cover it, a CPAP battery is a worthwhile investment. It ensures that you can continue your therapy uninterrupted no matter where life takes you.

Can I Use My CPAP Battery On a Plane?

All the CPAP batteries mentioned above are FAA/TSA-approved, so you can bring them on a plane without any issues. For other CPAP batteries, the manual or packaging should indicate whether they meet FAA regulations. If you’re unsure, it’s best to check with the manufacturer before travelling.

Since these batteries contain lithium-ion, they must be carried in your carry-on bag. Airlines do not allow lithium batteries in checked luggage, so always keep them with you to avoid any problems at security.

To make your travel experience smoother, consider calling your airline before your flight to confirm their specific policies. Some brands provide a TSA compliance certificate in the packaging to show airport staff if needed. If your battery does not include one, you can print out the FAA/TSA regulations from the manufacturer’s website or request a compliance notice. Being prepared helps ensure that your CPAP therapy remains uninterrupted wherever you go.

What to Do If a CPAP Battery Isn’t Right for You

Consider using a CPAP Adaptor

If a CPAP battery isn’t an option, a CPAP adaptor can be a lightweight and convenient alternative. A DC power adaptor allows you to connect your CPAP to a car, RV, or portable power station, making it a great choice for camping, road trips, or emergencies. Just be sure to choose an adaptor that is compatible with your CPAP machine to ensure safe and efficient operation. No matter where you go, the right adaptor can help you stay on track with your sleep therapy.

Plus, its portable humidification system adds comfort without the need for a bulky water chamber, making it a hassle-free choice for sleep therapy anywhere. power supply unit power supply unit power supply unit battery power lit. However unlike standard CPAP machines that work with most masks, the AirMini only supports specific ResMed masks.

Transcend Micro

The Transcend Micro is the smallest and lightest travel CPAP, weighing just 218 grams and measuring under 9.2 cm, perfect for travel. Despite its size, it delivers automatic pressure adjustments, expiratory pressure relief, and a customisable ramp for comfort. It works with any standard CPAP mask and offers Bluetooth connectivity for easy therapy tracking. With whisper-quiet operation and an optional battery for up to two nights of power, it’s a portable and reliable sleep therapy solution.

BMC M1 Mini

The BMC M1 Mini is another ultra-lightweight and compact travel CPAP, weighing just 400 grams, making it easy to take anywhere. Despite its small size, it features auto-adjusting pressure, a customisable ramp, and Bluetooth connectivity via the BMC MiniApp, allowing users to control settings and track therapy progress from their phones. It also offers waterless humidification through HME technology, eliminating the need for a bulky water chamber while still providing comfort.

To use waterless humidification, a compatible BMC mask is required – something to keep in mind if you prefer a different mask.

Ultimately, a CPAP battery could be a lifesaver for those who need reliable sleep therapy while travelling, camping, or during power outages. As technology improves, these batteries are becoming smaller, more powerful, and easier to carry, making them a great investment for CPAP users. Before purchasing, always check compatibility to ensure the battery works with your machine. If a CPAP battery isn’t the right fit, a CPAP travel machine or an adaptor could be a better alternative to keep your therapy uninterrupted wherever you are.
